Oegema Turkey Farms is the latest business in Elgin County to be recognized for providing their employees with a living wage. Living Wage St. Thomas – Elgin presented Oegema Turkey Farms with a certificate on Monday (Jan 27) to celebrate their investment in the local economy.
It has been calculated and in order to earn a living wage to support a family of 4 in St. Thomas and Elgin County, employees must be making at least $16.57 an hour.
Co-owner Mike Oegema says they are providing their employees with a living wage in order for their employees to have an opportunity to be active in the community.
Oegema Turkey Farms joins Braam’s Custom Cabinets, Employment Services Elgin, Steelway Building Systems, H.D. Painting, Forest City Castings, Gorman-Rupp Pumps, and Clar-i-ty Solutions as companies in Elgin County that are paying their employees a living wage.
