St. Thomas Police are warning residents to be wary of online employment sites. A St. Thomas woman is now out $2400 after trusting a job opportunity on care dot com.
After being given a cheque from the fraudster employer, she was reportedly asked to send cash for training resources. The woman cashed the cheque and sent the money to the scammer in the UK.
After a few days, her bank contacted her to tell her the cheque was fraudulent and that she was on the hook for the entire amount lost.
St. Thomas Police say to keep an eye out for red flags when looking for employment online. They say that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
