All public and catholic schools throughout Elgin County will be closed on Tuesday (Feb 4) following the announcement that the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will be holding a one day strike at select school boards. Among the boards affected by the withdrawal of services is the Thames Valley District School Board.
The OSSTF withdrawal joins other strikes taking place on Tuesday by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) and the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA). This means that all schools within the Thames Valley District School Board and London District Catholic School Board in St. Thomas and Elgin County will be closed. This strike is expected to affect about 100,000 students across the region.
The ETFO also have a strike planned for Thursday (Feb 6), if an agreement between the union and the Ontario Government is not reached by the end of the day today.
