Last week the Bank of Canada launched public consultations to select a new iconic Canadian to appear on the five-dollar bill. Canada’s first Francophone Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier has been on the bill since 1972. The myFM team hit the streets to see who people think should be on the new bill.
In 2018, the bank went through a similar public process for the ten-dollar bill. With input from the public, they chose civil rights icon Viola Desmond to adorn the ten.
Canadians can submit nominations for the new five dollar bill by using the Bank of Canada’s submission form up until March 11th.
