Speaking at a mayor’s luncheon at the St. Anne’s Centre last week, Central Elgin Mayor Sally Martyn joined St. Thomas Mayor Joe Preston and Southwold Mayor Grant Jones to update the business community on the state of the three municipalities. Martyn said staff and council are looking to aggressively market the municipality as a business location.
Martin stressed, wherever permitted through the passing of a new development charges bylaw, Central Elgin will ensure that growth pays for growth while encouraging industrial development.
Martyn added that the strategic plan adopted in 2019 by council will be implemented this year. Martyn said the plan has four goals. They include conservation of the natural environment; affordable infrastructure; effective governance; and a thriving economy and a sustainable community. The latter includes plans for the Port Stanley harbour.
Martyn stressed a significant portion of the harbour lands will be kept for public green space.
