Three OPP detachments, the Southwold Fire Department, and St. Thomas Elgin paramedics responded to a 2 vehicle collision on the 401 near Mill Road on Sunday night. Around 7:15 p.m. the Elgin County, Middlesex and Chatham-Kent OPP arrived on scene where a lone westbound 4 door vehicle lost control and crossed the center media entering into the eastbound lanes striking an eastbound minivan head on.
The driver of the 4 door vehicle sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance. Their condition has since been updated to fair. The driver of the minivan did not sustain any serious injuries.
The OPP report that weather was a factor in the collision and officers are continuing to investigate the incident.
The 401 was closed in both directions to allow safe access to the crash site for emergency personnel for a large portion of Sunday night.
