Turning used objects into eco-friendly items of a greater value proved to be a lesson in helping those less fortunate for a group of students at St. Anne’s Catholic Elementary School in St. Thomas. On Valentine’s Day, the students visited Inn Out of the Cold with a $150 donation raised through their classroom upcycling project.
Lizzy Ayres and Ainsley Brodrip, students in Mrs. Collier’s Grade 6 class explain why they chose the charities for their upcycling charity project.
Sandy Westaway with Inn Out of the Cold said the experience that day underlines the need for volunteers and the plight of those less fortunate.
While at the shelter, the students crafted placemats and treat bags for those who spend the night at Inn Out of the Cold. During the cheque presentation, the students said they all were proud of the project and the money raised and felt lucky to be able to give back to the community on Valentine’s Day.
