Students that attend a catholic school in Elgin County will have a 3 day school week next week as the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association has announced another 1 day strike.
The strike will be taking place on March 5th and will impact all boards within the union, and as a result all schools within the London District Catholic School Board will be closed for the day on Thursday.
The strike was announced after talks broke down between the provincial government and the union late last week.
OECTA President Liz Stuart says during talks last week, the government continued to insist on its deep, permanent cuts. Stuart adds the Minister of Education has continued his attempts to mislead the public, by making accusations against catholic teachers and their association, claiming that enhancements to benefits is the sticking point in bargaining.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce said earlier this week the Catholic teachers union was seeking a 6% increase to benefits.
