When visiting a relative or friend in the hospital, you don’t usually remember it as a culinary experience. That changed this week at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital with the new layout and food options available at the Atrium Cafe on the lower level.
The emphasis is now on more choices, quality food and partnering with local businesses like Las Chica, Living Alive Granola and Kosuma Energy Bars.
Steve Wright, director of environmental services, explains the better flow for customers through the cafe.
Shannon McHugh, Manager of Patient and Retail Food Services notes the hospital is one of the few left in southwestern Ontario that still cooks a large percentage of menu items onsite. Beginning in April, the Atrium Cafe will remain open into the evening as well.
