With close to 32 people having tested positive for the novel coronavirus across the province, is that cause for increased concern for residents of St. Thomas and Elgin county?
Dr. Joyce Lock, medical officer of health with Southwestern Public Health, says unless you or someone you know has travelled to higher-risk countries like China, Iran, northern Italy and several other European countries, the risk factor remains low.
Lock advises, 80 percent of people who contract coronavirus get very mild symptoms.
She adds, if you have the symptoms and you haven’t travelled anywhere, then it is most likely a cold so just stay home and treat it like a cold. Most important, says Lock, if you have mild symptoms, do not go the emergency department at the hospital.
