The outbreak of COVID-19 in Canada has put a spotlight on sick days for employees and employers. While some companies provide employees with paid sick leave, others may not.
However, Andrew Haber, a labour lawyer advises employers who may have employees who are sick on what they should do.
Haber says there are resources available to ensure that employees don’t miss out on income while sick.
The Federal Government has now waived the one-week waiting period for employment insurance to assist workers and businesses affected by the novel coronavirus.
In the meantime, the recommendation for the best way to prevent catching and spreading it includes; stay home when ill, cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve and wash hands with soap and water or with a alcohol-based hand rub.
