Notable by his absence at Monday’s city council meeting, Coun. Steve Peters explains he now is in self-isolation following a holiday in Spain. For the trip overseas, he packed surgical masks to be on the safe side. While initially there were little signs of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region of Spain he was visiting, he said by the time he left, day-to-day life was beginning to change dramatically.
While he was aware of social distancing, when awaiting departure in Spain, Peters said those boarding the plane were in very close contact. At all times on the way to the airport and when there, he was wearing his surgical mask.
When he returned to Pearson Airport in Toronto on Saturday, Peters said there was absolutely nothing said to returning travellers about self isolating.
And he has valuable advice for those returning to St. Thomas and area from outside the country.
Peters says he feels good and hasn’t yet exhibited any of the COVID-19 symptoms. And he adds he can’t stress enough the value of hand washing.
Peters says it is important to self-isolate if you are returning to the area from outside the country because you do not want to contribute to community spread of the coronavirus.
