The individual confirmed yesterday (Monday) as Elgin county’s first confirmed case of COVID-19 was admitted to hospital Monday evening. After all precautions were taken, the man was transported by ambulance to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. President and CEO Robert Biron says because of patient confidentiality, he cannot confirm the patient’s condition had quickly deteriorated.
Biron added, “Having a confirmed case in our hospital is not unexpected given the transmission of this virus globally.” He praised staff for being well prepared for this eventuality.
Dr. Joyce Lock, the Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health said Monday the health unit is following up with any contacts of the individual to ensure the public is aware and protected from the spread of this virus.
