Elgin county has recorded its second confirmed case of COVID-19 today (Wednesday). A female in her 30s is self-isolating after coming in close contact with an infected individual.
To handle the increased number of COVID-19 tests now being undertaken across the province, Public Health Ontario is setting up additional centres able to come on board to avoid a lengthy backlog. Southwestern Public Health medical officer of health, Dr. Joyce Lock, says this includes a testing lab in London.
Dr. Lock says she is pleased with the COVID-19 test results coming back to her.
With some confusion in the community as to who should be tested for COVID-19, she says certain criteria has to be met before testing an individual, with an emphasis on those providing necessary services.
Dr. Lock adds the preferred method of testing is a nose swab, but with a shortage of that particular swab, in some cases now, individuals may get a throat swab which she says is equally effective.
