With an increased stress on the need for social distancing to help combat the spread of COVID-19, St. Thomas is now closing all of its playgrounds including the skate park and the dog park. Mayor Joe Preston says the onus is on residents to police themselves when it comes to using these facilities.
Preston is encouraging residents not to involve police if they see people at these facilities.
Preston says the city will post signage in these parks in the coming days. He assures residents the city parks and trails are still open for use but again maintain that social distancing.
Playgrounds in Central Elgin and the Town of Aylmer have also been closed until further notice.
