Southwestern Public Health has confirmed the 5th and 6th case of COVID-19 in Elgin County. The website that is updated by the health unit daily, says the 5th case is a female in her 60s who is currently self isolating at home.
The 6th case in Elgin County is a female in her 90s who is listed as in the hospital. Both of the new cases contracted the virus by close contact with someone who had tested positive.
This is now the 8th confirmed case in the Southwestern Public Health region that covers Elgin County, Oxford County, and the City of St. Thomas.
The first case was announced on March 22nd when a male in his 30s tested positive for COVID-19 after close contact with someone outside the region who has the virus. The male was in self isolation at home but has seen been transported to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital after his case worsened.
As of Friday (March 27) at 3:30 p.m., the public health unit reports having completed 271 tests, with 150 negative results, 116 pending and 30 probable cases.
