In an effort to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Municipality of Central Elgin has closed their public beaches, including Main Beach and Little Beach, in Port Stanley.
To help keep visitors away, the municipality has barricaded parking lots for beaches and parks. Central Elgin Mayor Sally Martyn admits enforcing the provincial government’s emergency order on beaches and parks is not necessarily easy to enforce.
Martyn reminds residents and visitors that Central Elgin has already closed and fenced playground equipment, outdoor fitness equipment and multi-purpose courts in municipal parks and beaches.
