The City of St. Thomas in partnership with Inn Out of the Cold has opened a new temporary Day Time Drop-In Centre in the former Social Services building at 423 Talbot Street.
This new drop in centre that has been created as a result of COVID-19 will be used to house people who have nowhere else to go and have choose not to utilize the services of Inn Out of the Cold who are open 24/7 for the time being.
Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, the centre provides a safe space with places to sit, a microwave, entertainment such as a TV, small one person puzzles, adult colouring pages, with internet also being set up.
Executive Director of Inn Out of the Cold Lori Fitzgerald says that although the centre does not provide food, they have partnered with the Grace Cafe who will provide the guests with a meal from 7:45 a.m. to noon, Monday to Saturday.
Fitzgerald says this new space is meant for those not currently staying at Inn Out of the Cold in an effort to stop continued travel around the city as much as possible.
