Southwestern Public Health is reporting a total of 18 confirmed and active cases of COVID-19 within St. Thomas and Elgin County. Since our last update on Friday, 4 COVID-19 cases in SWPH’s region have been resolved. Although our current total active number of cases in St. Thomas and Elgin County has not increased since Friday due to some of the cases being resolved, some new cases were announced over the weekend including the first in Bayham.
In total there are now 4 active cases in Dutton Dunwich, 2 in Central Elgin, 1 in Aylmer, 2 in West Elgin, 1 in Malahide, 1 in Bayham and 7 in St. Thomas.
As of Monday (April 20) afternoon the website shows that SWPH has administered 1271 tests with 977 negative results, 250 still pending, 13 resolved cases and 3 deaths, all in Elgin County.
Ontario is reporting 606 new cases of COVID-19, the largest single-day increase, and 31 new deaths. Despite the large increase, the new total of 11,184 cases is just 5.7 per cent higher than the day before, continuing a relatively low growth trend.
The total includes 584 deaths and 5,515 resolved cases. The number of people in hospital confirmed to have COVID-19 and those on a ventilator went down slightly, while the number of people in intensive care remained stable.
