Take an internationally known award-winning border collie named Kilt, stranded in Hamburg, New York. A St. Thomas owner anxious for her return. And a long-distance trucker named Eric, heading to Nova Scotia. Put them all together and you’ve got . . .
Kilt’s owner Victoria Craig had left the three-year-old collie with a breeder in New York, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. After the birth of seven pups and the border now closed, how do you get momma home to her owner? In just seven hours Sunday, after several conversations with total strangers, Kilt – a gifted dock dog – was reunited with her owner, thanks to the kindness of trucker Eric MacDonald of Nu-Line Trucking.
He ferried the collie across the border to a pre-arranged exchange with Victoria Craig at a Cambridge Wal-Mart.
Helping pull off the border collie border crossing were Christy Dalby and her husband Jeff, total strangers, who set into motion the pick-up and delivery by Eric.
Craig still can’t believe the whole orchestration, from Facebook conversations to watching Eric pull up in his tractor trailer, was accomplished Sunday in just seven hours.
