St. Thomas has recorded its first Covid-19 outbreak at a long-term care facility. Southwestern Public Health confirmed today (Wednesday) a staff member at Caressant Care Bonnie Place has tested positive for the coronavirus.
Stuart Oakley, Marketing and Communications manager at Caressant Care’s corporate office in Woodstock, confirmed the staff member also worked at their Mary Bucke facility in St. Thomas.
Megan Cornwell, communications manager at the health unit, stressed no residents have exhibited symptoms at this time.
The health unit refers to it as an outbreak in an institution even if there is just one case reported. Cornwell added, all staff and residents at both homes will be tested for the coronavirus as is the case now with all long-term care homes in the province.
