A group of local volunteers have been spending their time of social distancing supporting those who are on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic by 3D printing mask clips. The group of around 17 volunteers who are apart the group 3D Printers For PPE – St. Thomas Elgin, have been working closely with the community and #SewStrong to get the clips to those who need them.
Aaron DeVries with the St. Thomas Public Library who are one of the supporters of the cause, says that the items that they are 3D printing aren’t clinical items but more so comfort items for those that have to wear masks for a long period of time.
DeVries says that the group is approaching the completion and distribution of 10,000 clips to many area businesses and organizations that need them.
DeVries adds that it is all thanks to the volunteers and support from local businesses and organizations such as GCW Custom Kitchens & Cabinetry, the Elgin Law Association, Van Pelt’s, the STEAM Centre, the St. Thomas Public Library and Elgin County Library, as well as a gofundme page that has allowed them to purchase more supplies for the printers.
Those looking to request clips for frontline or essential businesses or organizations can do so here.
