St. Thomas has received almost $1.8 million in provincial funding to help offset additional expenses incurred by the city’s social services department as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. At a special meeting last week, city council was in receipt of a list of 13 community partners requesting a portion of that funding. They provide residential housing to vulnerable individuals . City manager Wendell Graves outlines the process.
With the exception of Port Bruce Manor, all of the facilities are located in St. Thomas. In addition, food banks in St. Thomas and Aylmer will receive financial assistance from the province as they struggle to provide service during the COVID-19 pandemic. The St. Thomas Food Bank will receive a lump sum of $25,000 plus a monthly amount of $5,000 to cover costs.
Harvest Outreach in the city will get a one-time sum of $4,000 and the Corner Cupboard in Aylmer will receive a monthly amount of $8,000
