The St. Thomas Fire Department is encouraging everyone to prepare in the case of an emergency. It’s Emergency Preparedness Week – a time when residents are encouraged to review their safety plans and ensure that they’re ready, in the event of an emergency such as a blackout or a tornado.
Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun says everyone is encouraged to set up an emergency management plan for their home.
Destun says that they encourage families to always have a plan incase of a fire, but Emergency Preparedness Week is meant to take that a step further.
Destun says that those looking to make a household plan or build an Emergency Survival Kit, should visit emergencymanagementontario.ca for more information. Destun adds that a pandemic such as COVID-19 is an excellent example of needing to be prepared for whatever emergency may come our way.
