While the province has begun easing COVID-19 restrictions, that does not mean a sudden return to normal activities. This particularly relates to owners of secondary residences such as cottages, advises Dr. Joyce Lock, medical officer of health for Southwestern Public Health.
With the May long weekend fast approaching, she is urging these owners to remain at their primary residence for the time being.
Dr. Lock says while the infection rate remains low in the health unit’s coverage area, there could be a risk for owners of secondary residences travelling to other parts of the province where the rates may be much higher.
There are exceptions, notes Dr. Lock. These include emergency maintenance and repairs at the secondary residence. The health unit has guidelines available if you need to travel to a cottage or beach house in such a circumstance. The document can be found at swpublichealth.ca.
