Although the reality may be a number of weeks away, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is preparing to resume scheduled surgeries and procedures. Last week, Premier Doug Ford unveiled a framework to allow hospitals in the province to assess their readiness and begin the necessary planning.
Hospital president and CEO Robert Biron says this will involve a regional approach with an eye to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Biron says before they can proceed, the facility has to ensure it has the resources and capacity to respond to any emergency situation.
As of yesterday afternoon, the hospital estimates it needs to catch up on approximately 1,350 surgeries, a number that will continue to grow
