Cannabis cultivation on an isolated portion of land at the St. Thomas Municipal Airport is not sitting well with neighbouring Central Elgin residents.
On Monday, they presented city council with a written list of a dozen concerns they would like addressed prior to any grow operation at the airport by MERA Cannabis. They are concerned there has been no consultation with Central Elgin Mayor Sally Martyn or any of the residents.
City manager Wendell Graves says staff has been directed to respond to all concerns.
Graves adds that the land in question is zoned agricultural.
The residents are requesting delegation status at an upcoming council meeting and a halt to cultivation plans until a meeting with residents, the company and municipal councils in Central Elgin and St. Thomas is arranged.
