The St. Thomas Police Service along with their Accident Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate following a fatal collision that took place around 4:30 this afternoon on Sunset Drive near the intersection of Wilson Avenue.
Police report that preliminary investigation indicates that an SUV travelling southbound on Sunset drive crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.
The driver of the motorcycle, a 60-year-old male from the Courtright area was transported to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His passenger, a 22-year-old female was also transported to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 59-year-old St. Thomas woman was also taken to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital with injuries.
As police continue to investigate, Sunset Drive between Elm Street and Shaw Valley Drive will be closed to traffic in both directions. Police say to expect delays in the area for several hours.
It’s the second fatal cross-over accident in the area in as many days.
Thursday around 5 p.m., a southbound car on Wellington crossed over into the northbound lane and collided with a pick-up truck just north of Ron McNeil Line.
54-year-old Carrie Avery of Southwold was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
