On Tuesday, premier Doug Ford told reporters he didn’t want to risk the further spread of COVID-19 by allowing kids to go back to school, meaning students will have to continue their studies through the online “Learn at Home” program instilled by the province in late March.
For local St. Thomas parent, Jessica the province’s announcement that the school year will continue online didn’t come as a surprise.
The announcement also included that overnight camps will not open this summer, but day camps could possibly operate in the future with strict public health measures. This news continues to put a damper on parents plans for child care over the summer months.
St. Thomas parent, Jessica says she appreciates the extra time she’s had at home with her family and says they’ve made the most of it, but her children are missing the normalcy of the school day, where they get to see their friends and interact with other children
Jessica says for her family, the situation is a lot more adaptable as both her and her husband are able to be flexible with work, but she feels for other families who are struggling with the lack of child care options at this time.
Jessica adds that as a mother of 3 young kids, the worst part of the situations is seeing her kids missing the normalcy of the school day, where they get to see their friends and interact with other children.
