The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s that takes place in Elgin County every year, has been moved online. On Sunday, May 31st the walk that is meant to raise awareness and funds for alzheimer’s and dementia will bring Canadians together online to support one common goal.
Public Education Coordinator with the Alzheimer Society of Elgin-St. Thomas, Maggie Scanlon says the event will look very different from years past, but it also gives people the opportunity to try other activities as opposed to just walking.
Participants are encouraged to do whatever activity they like, whether that be yoga, gardening, or just simply going for a walk to support the cause.
Scanlon says that due to COVID-19, people may not be able to support the cause financially, but everyone is encouraged to help raise awareness.
Scanlon adds that those who participate are encouraged to share how they are making the walk special by posting photos to their social media, using the hashtags #ElginWFA and #OurConnectionsMatter. Participants are able to either tune into the Alzheimer Society of Elgin-St. Thomas facebook page where they will be streaming the live event or they can go to the main page of walkforalzheimers.ca and it will be streamed there.
Those wishing to join the Walk for Alzheimer’s can register online as an individual or team or you can support someone else by donating to an existing team.
