A Heat Warning is in effect for St. Thomas and Elgin County. Environment Canada says high daytime temperatures near 30 are expected this afternoon and temperatures are forecast to be slightly higher Tuesday and Wednesday and possibly Thursday. Humidex values in the mid to upper 30’s are also expected.
You are reminded that extreme heat affects everyone. Remember to drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place. Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Environment Canada adds that heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
The city has opened a cooling centre at 423 Talbot Street, the former Ontario Works building. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
