St. Thomas has recorded a new case of COVID-19. This new case which was reported Tuesday, comes as a result of an institutional outbreak at Secord Trails in Ingersoll. 8 staff members that work at the care community have been confirmed to have the virus, with 1 of them living in St. Thomas. At this time, only staff have been affected by the virus with no residents confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.
The announcement of this new case brings the total of ongoing cases in St. Thomas and Elgin County back up to 1, as the last remaining case in Malahide has since been resolved.
In the Southwestern Public Health coverage area, 4,170 people have been tested as of Wednesday, with 3,856 negative results and 241 pending. A total of 60 cases have now been resolved. You are reminded that the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is now taking appointments for those that wish to get tested for COVID-19.
Ontario is reporting 292 new cases of COVID-19 today, and 32 more deaths. It’s the second straight day of fewer than 300 new cases, following several consecutive days of more than 400.
The new cases bring the provincial total to 26-thousand-483, an increase of 1.1 per cent over yesterday. The number of tests reported today also jumped to more than 15-thousand, from just under 10-thousand yesterday.
