Having sat vacant for some time, the city is anxious to find tenants for the former Wellington Street School.
At Monday’s meeting, council gave city staff the green light to broaden the permitted uses of the Wellington Block to make it more attractive to potential tenants.
As city manager Wendell Graves explains, institutional uses will now be permitted in the heritage building.
In 2012 students returned to Wellington Street School for the first time in several years as it became a satellite campus for Algoma University.
Most recently the building was the home of the STEAM Centre.
