In spite of the arrival of summer-like weather, beaches in Elgin county appear unlikely to open for another couple of weeks. Central Elgin Mayor Sally Martyn said this afternoon (Friday) a task force has been established to come up with guidelines for opening beaches in Port Stanley, Port Bruce, Port Burwell and Port Glasgow. Martyn stressed the need to coordinate beach openings with other southwestern Ontario communities.
She says one concern is social distancing and the cost of marking off the beach in squares as has been the case on some European beaches.
Martyn says, as such, a tentative opening date of June 15 in Elgin may not be feasible.
