The OPP are reminding pet owners that leaving your pet in your car could not only be fatal for them, but it could also result in a charge being laid under the PAWS Act or the Criminal Code of Canada.
Police say that they receive a large number of calls from concerned citizens regarding pets left inside unattended vehicles during the warmer months. Following the recent heat we have seen, police want to emphasize the dangers a hot vehicle can have on your pets.
They say that when the temperate is 26 degrees, the temperature inside a vehicle parked in the shade reaches 32 degrees.
If your vehicle is left in the sun, they say the temperature can reach 71 degrees.
Dogs and cats pant to cool themselves, but when surrounded by heat, it’s ineffective.
Your pet will be more comfortable if left at home.
