A heat warning with a rare extreme UV index is forecasted today.
When it comes to the heat, Environment Canada is expecting daytime high temperatures between 30 to 33 degrees today and Wednesday with overnight low temperatures between 19 and 22 degrees expected tonight.
Tomorrow, the humidex value will reach the high 30’s.
Temperatures will cool off Wednesday night as a cold front passes through southern Ontario.
The UV Index for today is 12 or extreme.
According to Environment Canada, having a UV index of 12 is rare even in southern Ontario where we tend to see the strongest sun rays.
They say when UV rays are this strong, people should take full precautions.
Unprotected skin will be damaged and can burn in minutes.
You should be avoiding the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and should also cover-up, and wear a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
In St. Thomas, a cooling centre is located at 423 Talbot Street.
