With the realization there is mounting pressure to open beaches in Elgin county, the hope was to open them as early as this weekend. However, as Central Elgin Mayor Sally Martyn stresses, all safety protocols for the four county beaches have to be agreed upon and then endorsed by Southwestern Public Health.
Martyn said the mayors of the four municipalities involved agreed to open beaches only when they feel it is safe to do so and that is why the new opening date is tentatively set for June 22.
Martyn will announce the rules and regulations the public will be required to follow at a media reception at 11:45 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday).
