An Aylmer barber shop was forced to temporarily close due to public health infractions. Southwestern Public Health is advising clients of Mario Chirico Barber Shop to consult with their health care providers following public health inspections that revealed single-use disposable razor blades were used on multiple clients.
In addition, reusable instruments were not cleaned and disinfected between clients.
Dr. Joyce Lock, Medical Officer of Health for Southwestern Public Health advises the risk is considered low and there have been no documented infections to date.
The health unit adds, this barbershop has a long history of reusing single-use instruments and clients who received a shave or the use of the blade on the neck area anytime in the shop’s history are advised to speak to their health care provider.
