Due to a prolonged period of hot weather that is expected over the next few days, Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for St. Thomas and Elgin County.
Environment Canada reports that temperatures of 30+ degrees are expected this afternoon through Sunday, with the heat event likely to persist into next week.
Minimum overnight temperatures of 20 to 23 degrees are also expected.
Extreme heat affects everyone with risks being greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
You are reminded that you can take advantage of cooling centres at 423 Talbot Street and the Talbot Teen Centre St. Thomas, as well as in West Elgin at the Community Health Centre.

Maximum temperatures Sunday: 31 to 35 degrees Celsius (Humidex 37 to 42).
