The St. Thomas Police arrested a 44 year old male resident Saturday afternoon after he attacked a 26 year old man with a hatchet.
Police report that the incident occurred at the west end of Barwick Street in a grassy area by the creek, when a group of males that were fishing were approached by the suspect and told to leave the area.
An argument then ensued and escalated when the suspect pulled a hatchet striking the victim several times, where they sustained injuries to their hands and neck.
Officers were able to locate the suspect near the scene and took him into custody without incident.
As a result the 44 year old has been charged with Assault With a Weapon and Weapons Dangerous and was later released on an Undertaking with court date.
