The Ontario government is promising to fund eight-thousand new long-term care beds and 12-thousand renovated beds — down from levels it promised two years ago.
Premier Doug Ford noted that the creation of thousands of needed beds has been slow, so his government is changing the way it funds projects in order to spur development.
Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton explains the new model.
Fullerton also announced she is loosening rules for people visiting long-term care homes to allow limited indoor visits.
Visitors will also no longer need to prove that they’ve had a negative COVID-19 test within the previous two weeks.
