Southwestern Public Health is reporting 2 new cases of COVID-19 in St. Thomas. This news follows the announcement over the weekend of 3 new St. Thomas cases and 1 new case coming out of Bayham.
A total of 6 cases are now active in St. Thomas and Elgin County, along with 2 cases that still remain active in Woodstock.
myFM reached out to SWPH after receiving information that a worker from Formet Industries may have tested positive for the virus. The health unit did confirm a positive test coming out of the local factory, but states the individual resides outside of the Southwestern Public Health region.
They also report that it is not considered a workplace outbreak.
In the Southwestern Public Health coverage area 14,028 people have been tested to date , with 13,675 negative results and 260 still pending.
Today Ontario is reporting more than 200 new cases of COVID-19 for the first time since late June. The province says there were 203 new cases and 1 death related to the virus over the past 24 hours.
There were 92 newly resolved cases reported today, meaning new cases have outpaced resolved cases for multiple days in a row.
Health Minister Christine Elliott says 57 per cent of todays cases came from people under the age of 39 and calls the latest numbers concerning.
