Thanks to the Emergency Community Support Fund that has been distributed by the United Way Elgin Middlesex, $2.2 million dollars is going to support charities and organizations across Elgin, St. Thomas, London, and Middlesex.
The United Way initially launched a call for applications for the fund back in May and received 60 applications requesting grants of up to $150,000 to meet high priority needs related to COVID-19 across our region.
Locally, Inn Out of the Cold St Thomas Elgin will be receiving $58,616 to support additional staffing to support day programming, screening for COVID-19 and enhanced food service.
STEAM Education Centres Incorporated is receiving $71,340 to continue refurbishing desktop and laptop computers to be distributed to low income individuals.
Central Community Health Centre will be using their $61,677 grant for the provision of primary care services, harm reduction supplies, and basic needs to people experiencing homelessness through a Mobile Unit.
