An independent commission into why Ontario’s long-term care homes were hit so hard by COVID-19 will be able to compel people to give evidence. The commission was announced this afternoon by Premier Doug Ford.
The province’s Minister of Long-Term Care, Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, says the people of Ontario deserve a timely, transparent and non-partisan investigation.
The report is to be produced by April 30th of next year.
Ford says the commission will be able to make recommendations for systemic change in long-term care, but he isn’t yet saying whether they will be binding.
