With another long weekend upon us, Elgin warden Dave Mennill is urging visitors to county beaches not to let down their guard as July has proven to be a relatively successful month for compliance with COVID-19 restrictions.
However, Mennill cautions now is not the time to become complacent with the spike in confirmed cases over the past week.
He reminds beachgoers to remain in your family and social circles, maintain physical distancing and limit your time on the beach so others can enjoy. And, when you arrive in Port Stanley, if you can’t find a parking spot, that means the beaches are at capacity and it would be wise to return at another time.
Mennill stresses the aim this weekend is not to undo all the progress in the past month so that beaches can remain open for the remainder of the summer.
