St. Thomas will soon receive $2.3 million in emergency funding under Ontario’s Safe Restart Agreement. The funding is in partnership with federal dollars to address municipal operating pressures related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Phase 1 of the funding will go out to municipalities across the province next month.
Premier Doug Ford says in discussions with the federal government he was able to get a great deal for Ontario.
St. Thomas is in line to get $2,141,800 and an additional $166,751 to support transit operations. The County of Elgin will get close to $1.3 million in funding.
In a media release, Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek noted municipalities across the province are facing unprecedented pressures as a result of COVID-19. Yurek adde the emergency support will not only maintain critical service delivery but also support the health and safety of the communities.
