A 19-year-old male has been arrested by Elgin OPP following a fire aboard a commercial fishing tug moored at Port Stanley harbour late Saturday night.
OPP were alerted to the fire around 11:45 p.m. and when they arrived the tug Lady Pietra was fully engulfed in flames. Central Elgin firefighters extinguished the blaze.
No injuries were reported and damage is estimated at $750,000. OPP are treating it as arson and investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are assisting with the investigation.
The male is in police custody at this time.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area prior to the fire or shortly afterward to call Elgin OPP.
