A heads-up this long holiday weekend from Elgin OPP. They will be stepping up enforcement on roads, waterways and trails.Officers will be taking tough measures against those who place others at risk as part of their ongoing efforts to decrease fatalities and injuries caused by aggressive driving, distracted driving, seat belt non-compliance, impaired driving and failing to obey Move Over laws.
On OPP patrolled roadways and trails in Elgin county so far this year, there have been 5 fatal motor vehicle collisions with five deaths.
The driver’s conditions and cause were as follows:
· 1 involved alcohol – speed too fast for condition.
· 1 involved inattentive driving – failed to yield right of way
· 1 involved a medical condition – lost control
· 1 normal – lost control
· 1 involved an off road vehicle- alcohol involved – lost control
Elgin OPP remind motorists to think of others this holiday weekend. Buckle-up, slow down and be courteous, avoid distractions and don’t drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
