The Aylmer Police Service has put a notice out to the community about planned maintenance that will be taking place next week at the Aylmer IGPC site.
The service reports that EPCOR will be completing maintenance activities on a natural gas pipeline they own and operate in the Aylmer area.
This maintenance is required to clean and inspect the pipelines and as a result of these activities, natural gas will need to be flared at the Aylmer IGPC site located at 89 Progress Drive.
The flaring is scheduled to take place from September 21 to 25 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Residents may notice a flame at the top of the flare stacks as well as an odour that smells similar to Sulphur during the flaring.
FLARING
What You May See: During flaring, a flame will be noticeable at the top of the flare stacks.
Odours: There may be a faint odour associated with flaring activities. This odour could smell like Sulphur as a result of the Methyl Mercaptan we’ve added to natural gas to make leaks detectable.
Noise: EPCOR does not anticipate any additional noise associated with flaring activities.
Permits: All required approvals will be obtained prior to maintenance activities.
Environmental Considerations: EPCOR does not anticipate any environmental impacts to the airshed as a result of the planned flaring activities.
