On Saturday, the Virtual 3M Harvest Lunch and United Way Campaign Launch hit St. Thomas, which aims to provide 2,000 meals to neighbours in need.
Lisa Citton-Battel with 3M explains the change to their annual event.
Instead of gathering for lunch in person with 2,000 United Way supporters, 3M volunteers, friends and community members, every $10 ticket sold purchased a meal for a neighbour in need in Elgin Middlesex.
Heather Jackson, Associate Director with United Way Elgin Middlesex says the change in event as a result of COVID-19, may have actually worked out for the better
Jackson explains who they decided to support locally.
The meals, which were brought in by Catering by James Meadows, will support patrons for multiple Saturday dinners says Lori Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Inn Out of the Cold.
This year with the launch of their campaign, United Way’s goal is to mobilize the community to fight deepening poverty and mental health issues due to the COVID-19 crisis, issues that were already unignorable before the pandemic hit.
